Authentic Assessment for Engaged Online Learning

Best Practices

Authentic Assessment is a form of assessment that requires learners to demonstrate knowledge and skill through the development of a project or performance that is relevant to a real-world context or problem. It is oftentimes used to engage deeper learning with creativity, represent and assess knowledge through multiple formats, and create direct measures of student knowledge, but can also discourage cheating. The rationale being that it is much harder to fake knowledge and skill in a performance-based assessment than a standardized exam.
