Welcome back to Blackboard News You Can Use, your brief monthly newsletter to help you promote student success through MATC’s web-based learning environment, Blackboard Learn. In this edition, we share a few updates and reminders.
Best Practices for Supporting Student Success
The Blackboard Faculty Support Site has many resources for faculty including this document on What Faculty Can Do to Support Student Success. Topics include the use of communication and multimedia tools, using reflection and collaboration tools, collecting assignments and attendance using the grade book, and more.
Instructional Videos Shared with Students Must Have Closed Captions
Per MATC’s Closed Caption Policy and the Americans with Disabilities Act’s requirements, faculty who share instructional videos with students must make sure that they are accompanied by closed captions. The resource guide contains tool tutorials and a rubric to support your efforts towards satisfying this requirement.
You are cordially invited to complete a short survey to provide feedback about the Video Accessibility Resources Guide and your needs related to closed caption video support. This feedback will be used to improve the faculty innovation center’s services and is a part of faculty support team member Megan Hamilton’s Master’s level course work. If you are interested in completing the survey, the link is available here: https://forms.gle/DyJFQySCGpVEGU5g6. The survey will be open to collect responses until Friday, November 15th.
Upcoming Faculty Innovation Center Workshops
All MATC faculty are invited to attend Blackboard workshops to qualify for 1 CEU hour that counts towards FQAS! To receive credit, keep track of your participation hours to report to FQAS. Watch your MATC Gmail for announcements about additional workshop topics offered at outlying campuses!
