Blackboard News You Can Use – October 2019

Blackboard News You Can Use

Welcome back to Blackboard News You Can Use, your brief monthly newsletter to help you promote student success through MATC’s web-based learning environment, Blackboard Learn. In this edition, we share a few updates and reminders.

Best Practices and Support for Blackboard Use

All faculty are required to upload a current syllabus in their fall FA2020 sections, set up a Career Essentials Assessment, and make sections available to students. See our Best Practices for All Course Sections guide for tips and tutorials to support student success. If you have questions about getting started, the Faculty Support Liaisons are your first point of contact for one-on-one consultation; more support resources are available here

Reminder – All Instructional Video Must Have Closed Captions

Per MATC’s Closed Caption Policy, faculty who provide instructional videos to students must ensure that they are accompanied by closed captions that describe the video’s content. Closed captions are required by law and are beneficial for all learners.  See this resource guide to support your efforts towards satisfying this requirement. Remember – NBC Learn and Films on Demand are sources of high-quality closed-captioned instructional video for your courses.

Upcoming Faculty Innovation Center Workshops

All MATC faculty are invited to attend a one-hour Blackboard workshop to qualify for 1 CEU hour that counts towards FQAS. To receive credit, keep track of your participation hours to report to FQAS. Watch your MATC Gmail for announcements about additional workshop topics offered at outlying campuses.
