Blackboard Update Coming May 2018

On Friday, May 25th after 6:00 PM CST, Blackboard will undergo routine maintenance to update security features, correct known issues, and add requested enhancements to improve teaching and learning online. The update process will take approximately 24 hours to complete with no expected downtime.

Questions about the update can be sent to Distance Learning by completing the Contact Us form.

Key Enhancements

We will be using the same major version of Blackboard as we do currently, updating from Blackboard 9.1 version 3300 to Blackboard 9.1 version 3400. No major changes to Blackboard’s navigation, icons, or tools will occur, but the following enhancements and fixes to known issues will occur.

Attendance Tool

Blackboard has released a new course tool that you can use to record student attendance for each class session and incorporate attendance into Grade Center calculations. To learn more, see this tutorial.

System Theme Update

Blackboard’s visual look and feel will be updated to the Bb Learn 2016 system theme. This theme will apply a sleek mobile-responsive design to improve page accessibility and navigation. The following changes will occur:

  • Course themes and buttons are discontinued. You will be able to style course menus using link and background colors.

  • Course-to-course navigation icon will change to down arrow.

Grade Center Enhancements

With the Bb Learn 2016 theme, instructors will now be able to:

  • View full titles of Grade Center columns, making it easier to distinguish between similarly-titled items;

  • View as many columns as the size of their window will allow.

  • Enter into Grade Center full-screen mode to make the most of their desktop experience.
